| Sometimes, a dog (or any mammal) will not have the nipples go back to the size they were before they had a baby. The milk ducts themselves (the glands that carry the milk to the nipples) will shrink back to a somewhat normal size, but the skin, especially if she's had a large litter, is often stretched by the fullness of the milk ducts, and will thus not shrink near as much. It really does depend on the individual dog. The areola itself (the pinky area around the nipple) won't shrink back to the before birth size; but if you give her time, the sagginess of the 'milk bar' region (For lack of a better common term) may end up getting a bit closer and tighter to her stomach |

| It is common that larger dogs have more hormone imbalances. After experiencing a first heat, some go through what is called a false pregnancy. My Wiemaraner did this. The nipples closer to her private area are now larger.. as though she has had puppies. My vet says that it is simply the cause of a false pregnancy. There is nothing you can do..
