I'd say that most guys wear boxers and/or boxer briefs just because that's what is best selling now among teens. But a fair number of guys still wear briefs. So just wear whatever is most comfortable.

It would depend on the dorm/college. Many have coed dorms. Some have guy/girl rooms on the same wing or guys and girls on different wings/different floors, and even those that are not coed usually have fairly open policies regarding opposite sex visitors.
